Russian Jack Springs Park received very little snow in 2011. Global warming is definitely affecting the Arctic regions of the world. The park has many types of trees growing within its boundaries. I have included photos of several types of bark. Plants did not start blooming until the late May. Sort of a late spring.

Bark is hard to focus adequately because of the curvature of the tree. Even with a f/11 depth of field the focus area with a 35mm lens only covers the front curvature of the tree. What I thought were good photographs of bark patterns did not do well on the computer screen. I believe a super wide angle lens is required to photograph tree trunks. I used an old tripod that did not provide enough stability to take these images. Later I converted a surveyor tripod for photographic use, which provides a solid base for long exposures and minimal camera movement.
