These images were taken during the 2016 Heart Run in Anchorage, Alaska. Over 6,000 runners and walkers participated. Runners collected over $300,000 for the American Heart Association, Alaska Division. It was warm as Anchorage has had an early and balmy Spring. Survivors of heart disease wore red baseball hats. People either participated in the timed 5K run or 3K walk. This was the 38th running of the event.
I used my Nikon D810 and 70-200mm f/4 zoom lens with a monopod to photograph the Heart Run. It was cloudy with flat illumination that is ideal lighting for facial shots. Diffused light is flattering to the human face. High contrast lighting can make faces look harsh with deep shadows. I try to remain inconspicuous, but with a telephone lens and monopod it is hard to remain unnoticed at times. If an individual’s eyes tell me they do not want to be photographed I do not take an image. It seems kids like to be photographed.
I will remove any photo upon request at firstname.lastname@example.org.
