These images were taken of people watching the restart of the Iron Dog Snowmachine Race in Big Lake, Alaska on February 21, 2016. Alaska has had a terrible winter with no snow and warm temperatures. It was raining on everyone instead of snowing, but everyone was enjoying the restart. At least a hundred vehicle were parked on the ice at Big Lake. This year the winners traveled 2,050 miles in 35:35:22 hours of trail time with average speeds of 57 miles per hour. Very fast.
I used a monopod with my Nikon 70-200mm f/4 lens and Nikon D810. I used an f/4 aperture to keep depth of field narrow to emphasize people’s faces. An ISO of 400 allowed me to used 1/640 shutter speeds to stop the subject movement. I will remove any photo upon request by contacting me at email@example.com.
