These images were taken at the 2016 Fur Rendezvous carnival in Anchorage, Alaska. The Fur Rondy carnival is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Golden Wheel Amusements has been the sole provider for rides for Alaska’s fairs and carnivals since 1967. I took my girls to the carnival when they were young and this year my grandson attended the carnival.
It was a very cloudy day when I took the photographs. Overcast days allow me to obtain a correct exposure without difficulty, but there is little contract in images and colors can be under-saturated. I used my Nikon 70-200mm f/4 lens with a wide open aperture to blur out the background. This out-of-focus (bokeh) background enhances portraits since the individual’s face is in focus and the out-of-focus portion of the image has no distracting details. If the background is too in-focus it distracts from the subject. I used a monopod to keep shutter vibration to a minimum. I will remove any photo upon request by contacting me at email@example.com.
