Skinny Raven Sports in Anchorage, Alaska sponsors running events year-round. Alaska have many winter running events and there are plenty of people willing to participate. The images here were taken during the October 2017 Fright Run. I recognized many parents from photographing Alaskan run events. The Fright Run is a very friendly walking and running event for families. Lots of kid and many strollers. After the race, kids trick-or-treated in downtown Anchorage with thousands of other kids.
The first part of the event was photographed in the blue light of predawn. The second part of the gathering happened after the sun rose above the tall downtown buildings around Captain Cook Hotel, which gave people the golden color of sunrise. My first photographs were taken at slow shutter speeds of 1/20 to 1/50 of a second due to the darkness. An hour after the sun appeared and my exposures were around 1/500 a second. The scary fog dispensed by smoke machines obscured many good photography opportunities. I used a Nikon D600 with my 70-200mm f/4 telephoto lens on a monopod to capture these iamges.
I include more photographs than necessary when I first post images so people can see themselves and friends. I edit the number of images down to around 25 after several months. I will remove any photography upon request by contacting me at 907-240-1025 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
