These are random images I took during the 2014 Mayor’s Midnight Sun Marathon in Anchorage, Alaska. The 26.2-mile race started at Bartlett High School under heavy rain. Shorter races started on the Park Strip in downtown Anchorage with a light drizzle and then sunny skies. People had somber faces at the beginning of the race and smiles by the end of the day. Rain gear and umbrellas were everywhere.

I used my Nikon D600 and Nikon 70-200mm f/4 telephoto to concentrate on people’s faces. I used a monopod to keep camera shake to a minimum. I used a higher ISO in the morning and a lower ISO when bright skies appeared. I choose an ISO that allows me to use shutter speeds of 1/200 and faster. I usually overexpose by 1/3 to 1/2 f-stops, which seem to be the best exposure range for my Nikon D600. These are low resolution images for web viewing. I will remove any photo upon request at bartz@englishoephotography.com.
