These February 2014 images were taken along the Eagle River Road that is located 15 miles northeast of Anchorage, Alaska. The road is located next to the Iditarod National Historical Trail and leads into the Chugach Mountain. The Eagle River Nature Center sits at the end of the 12-mile road. The area provides many outdoor activities. In the fall Brown bears fish the streams for salmon near the center and several trails are closed to humans.
I used a tripod with my Nikon 70-200mm f/4 lens to photograph the mountains. I use a wireless remote to keep camera shake to a minimum. There was very little snow in the valley. The lack of winter in Alaska is having negative effects on the Arctic. I overexposed snow scenes by one or two f-stops to keep the snow white. Otherwise the snow would be dull and gray looking.
