Turnagain Arm jumps to life in the Spring. These images were taken in April 2015. Anchorage residents start heading south along the Seward Highway when the weather starts to warm and roads are less icy. There are still large chunks of ice in the inlet and snow in the mountains, but spring is in the air. In another month Alaskans will be fishing for salmon. The snowy landscapes were taken from Bird Ridge Trail. The trail begins as a steep ascent and ends at the 3,505-foot Bird Ridge Point. The images of the mud flats look nonthreatening but the glacier silt is like quick sand and is dangerous. People lose their lives every several years by sinking to the mud flats. The photographs were taken with my surveyor tripod with a mirror-up setting and wireless remote.
